ALBAOLA WILL BUILD THE REPLICA OF THE NAO VICTORIA

Albaola, The Sea Factory of the Basques, will build a replica of the nao Victoria, the ship in which Elcano and 17 other sailors returned to Seville after having managed to go around the world for the first time in history, in 1522.

It is a great new that we knew a few days ago. Nowadays, there are already several replicas of the Victoria, but as the responsible of the new project have said, “they are reconstructions more or less imagined or based on graphic representations of that time, based in iconography of that century”.

The boat that will be built in Albaola will be based on scientific evidence with the aim of being as faithful as possible to the real ship, and for this, they have already begun a scientific research process to design the construction plans and then start working . This first stage of research will be very thorough and, therefore, will involve experts from other countries in order to reach a scientific consensus. The research that has already begun, will be announced in detail during the congress organized by Albaola and Untzi Museoa-Museo Naval next September in the Summer Courses of the EHU/UPV (Basque Public University) in Donostia.
