WELCOME ON BOARD!!
Can you imagine traveling on a ship during three years without knowing when you will reach your destination? Would you dare?
What do you know about the first circumnavigation around the world? What do you know about the great Basque navigator Elcano? Come aboard with us! We have just set sail through this brand new blog. Throughout this voyage we are going to tell you the day-to-day activities and events of a big project that is already being implemented that will culminate on the 500th anniversary of the first journey around the world. The leading character of the project is Juan Sebastian Elcano, the great navigator frome Getaria. Under the command of Magellan, Elcano dared to set out on an uncertain voyage along with another 239 sailors. At the end, only he himself and another 17 men managed to accomplish that deed that lasted three years and went down in history. The success of that enterprise that began in 1519 and finished in 1522, proved that the earth was round and that by sailing towards the west one could also arrive at the Molucca Islands, famous for their precious spices like clove and pepper. Just imagine: until 1969, when man set foot on the moon, Elcano’s deed had been the greatest achievement of humanity. The first journey to the moon was a space adventure as risky and full of unanswered questions as the sea adventure on which Elcano embarked almost 500 years ago.
The voyage has begun… Go for it and come with us!
