ELCANO DISEMBARKED IN GETARIA SURROUNDED BY SPECTATORS AND EMOTION
Yesterday we were lucky to see the representation of the “Disembark of Elkano” from very close. Invited by the City Council of Getaria, we attended the arrival at the port of Nao Victoria with Elcano and the 17 surviving sailors on board, neighbors of Getaria who played their role perfectly. The pier and the streets of Getaria were full of people, thousands of people who did not want to miss this representation that is held every 4 years since 1922. The next one will be celebrated in 2022 and will be doubly special: it will coincide with the centenary of this popular representation and also with the 500th anniversary of the arrival in 1522 of the expedition of Elcano to Seville after a trip of three years.

At the end of the performance, the residents of Getaria together with Salbatore Abesbatza, sang the hymn to Elcano accompanied by the municipal band. This is the letter of the hymn in euskera:
